July Family Photos - Part 2
Posted by
McKenzie
As Ryan and I think about our imminent move, it is bitter sweet. While I do not claim to be from Utah, I have lived here for the past ten years and together, Ryan and I (with the Binx) have carved out our own little piece of happiness.
It has been a huge blessing to be near family, especially Ryan's Grandfather, Jim, who I have come to know and love as my own Grandpa. (When you don't grow up with one, you really come to appreciate the only grandpa you've ever known--I'm pretty sure he sets the bar pretty high.)
Grandpa - July 2014
He is such a source of strength to us--I love hearing about his time at Wal-Greens, being Sealed in the Temple, and hearing him talk about his sweetheart, Colleen. I really wish I'd known her.
A few weeks ago, when looking at a large family picture at Grandpa's house, I realized it had been four years (2010) since the last one was taken and that the family had grown by ten during that time! The one prior to that was in 2006, so a four-year gap was right on target.
I sent out a message to get Ryan's whole extended family together one last time before we all head off to different parts of the world, but unfortunately, it was physically impossible.
So instead, we had our own smaller shoot with Grandpa in Farmington. The photographer, Kelly, from Gallery Photography was incredible. His attention to detail was really amazing! I was really thinking one very large photo of everyone, but in the end he was able to get a little of this and a little of that.
The most important one for me the one of the kiddos with Grandpa.
And all of us with him too.

After that, everyone was icing on the cake. He got some of the three of us...
A great shot of Adi...
A few with the grandparents and grandkids...
And some of everyone together...

My Little Photographer

Twenty years from now I'll be happy to show this little girl evidence that nature wins out over nurture. That she chose pink as her favorite color and showed interest in hobbies such as dance, photography, and music before the age of three. Love her.

First "Official" Photo Shoot

My teacher keeps saying that good photography is a combination of style and technique, so I'm practicing. Throw in the fact that Adi really doesn't enjoy being the model, and it comes up in conversation at work. So, what helps me helps you, right?
Right. My colleague, Sherami, and her beautiful family agreed to pose for family pictures. Here are a few of my favorites...
Isn't she gorgeous? (Oh, and I love square photos.)
Sherami and Pablo (She is incredibly photogenic!)

Their little guy, what a cutie!

So, I have a secret that I haven't exposed to the blogosphere.
I've got a new hobby. Photography.
Inspired by a new friend, I decided to take a class at BYU this summer, and I've loved it. I've started to identify my personal style, but more on that to come.
Not-so-secretly I've enjoyed borrowing the department's Nikon D700 and Nikkor lenses. Consequently, my wonderful teacher has turned me into a Nikon snob, and thus begins the saving for a full-frame chip camera and a few super fast lenses.
Fortunately, I've still got the camera for another week or so.
Today is the last day of class and we worked with Adobe Lightroom. I manipulated a few of my favorite photos I've taken of Adi, but keep in mind these are JPG edits, not RAW... so the quality is questionable. And, this is the first time I've ever edited photos.
So. Much. Fun.
Adi's gorgeous eyes.
Awesome lighting. Still working on a few things. I think I'll use this photo as my final project.
Little scowls towards the camera (she's not a fan)
I manipulated the yellow in this. Previously it was super bright.

Photo Shoot... attempt?

Last night, Ryan and I took Adi to Nielson's Grove Park to take her pictures. I was excited to try out a fast Nikon lens that a professor here at BYU let me borrow.
It was tough.
Adi was constantly on the move, and was completely ignoring me. Completely. Deliberately.
Despite her best efforts, I did manage to get a few, although nothing like I'd hoped. Enjoy!
This bird had taken food right out of Ryan's hand.
A millisecond before she threw this headband in the pond.
She is pretty dang cute.
Looking back to see if I would chase her.
Check out that static!
And now for the favorites...
Ryan saw this and said she looked like a mini model. Funny little girl.
I love this picture, especially the color (I only wish there was a better catch light in her eyes).
And, you'll have to ignore her little scowl.
