Dreaming of a White Christmas
Posted by
Ryan
Remember how in November we had multiple winter storms pass through Utah?
The Binx built her first snowman using tomatoes from the garden.
And when I went for a run, I felt like a bobsled dog pushing that stroller with Adi mushing me along the trail.
And with snowmen towering over me along campus, I was sure we were in for a long, wet winter.
But yesterday, the three-month outlook appeared dismal for those dreaming of a white Christmas.
The images predicted it was going to be warmer with equal chances of being wet or dry (aka, they have no idea).
This is completely uncharacteristic for me, but after last year's brown Christmas and summer wild fires, I'm praying for some snow this year.
And a lot of it.
Feel free to join me.

Vintage Fun!
Posted by
McKenzie
A few weeks ago we drove to West Valley City one Friday evening to go to the Drive-in Movie at the Redwood Drive-in!
It was soooo awesome!
It reminded me of when I was a kid, except this theater had six screens!
We ran into some of Ryan's Red Cross buddies, who happened to have driven a vintage car to the theater to make the experience more authentic. LOVED it.
We saw The Incredible Spider Man and we loved it--although I'm not so keen on Adi staying up that late, watching the whole movie (we thought she would have fallen asleep).
Here are some pictures from the super fun evening!

Dressed in holiday lights!
Ryan and I have always enjoyed looking at the holiday lights in downtown Provo. It started as a tradition over four years ago on a snowy December night...
December 2007 | Provo avec la neige :)
And we've tried to continue the tradition over the years. This year Adi took an interest in lights and music, so it was fun taking her to see the music and timed lights at the Police Department...
December 2011 | Provo sans la neige :(
Happy Holidays 2011!

To our surprise this week, Santa sent an early Christmas gift...
A special Christmas Elf and his very own book.
Adi named him Buddy and I can tell they're going to be friends. (:

Adrielle's Blessing
Posted by
McKenzie
On March 28th, we blessed Adrielle in Orem. It was such a wonderful day--stressful at first--but wonderful! She was so darling, and I personally think she looked beautiful! We were worried she would cry during the blessing, but she was an angel and there were such wonderful friends and family there to support her!
Here are some highlights:
Great-Grandma and Grandpa Clark with Grandma Davies
Four-Generation Pictures
(Great-Grandma Killian, Adrielle, McKenzie, and Grandpa; Sir Thomas)
Four-Generation Pictures
(Great-Grandpa Davies, Adrielle, Ryan, and Grandpa Davies)
The Wardrobe...
Hand-made silk slippers with pearls (gift from Aunt Stephanie)
Soft and beautiful hand-woven afghan (gift from Aunt Stephanie)
We had a lot of family come to Orem for the blessing. It was so wonderful! We felt so blessed to have them so close by and from my distant memory (please if you were there and participated remind me) those who participated in the blessing were:
Ryan (father), Brad and Gaylen (Grandfathers), Albert and James (Great-Grandfathers), Adam, Chris, Austin, and Tyler (Uncles), Brad B., Dan, Nick, and Will (Good friends/Roommates), Terry and Scott (Great-Uncles), Paul and Bruce (extended cousins)--what a lucky little lady to have such wonderful men in her life!

First Presidency Christmas Devotional
Posted by
McKenzie
Last week, Ryan, Austin, and Nathan, and I were able to go to the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. Needless to say it was spectacular!
The spirit was so strong as the Tabernacle Choir sang "For Unto Us a Child is Born" and "O Holy Night"--truly incredible. Now, if I could only find the MP3 version of both of those songs for my iPod!

I really enjoyed the entire program, and especially appreciated the messages of the true meaning of Christmas. It helped me to realized that we need to let Christ into Christmas.
After the program, we walked around in the freezing cold to see some of the lights on Temple Square. I love the different lights, and am always impressed by the majesty that encompasses Temple Square!
I especially love these floating nativity and lit globes...
Now why didn't they have them there at our wedding in May? Huh? Huh? Anyone? Why don't they just keep them there year-round?
We walked pretty briskly through the lights because it was dreadfully cold and Ryan didn't have a coat, but we did manage to snap one pixilated, camera-phone picture. (We had the camera, but alas, no batteries, so we had to take pictures with my phone. Only problem... no flash means no light, no/bad picture.)
Ginger Bread Houses - 2009
Posted by
McKenzie
Sunday after church, Ryan and I drove up to Farmington to celebrate his birthday and an early traditional Christmas dinner. It was tons of fun to see everyone, especially our nephew!
Ryan was a spoiled boy and received sweaters, money, and a bread maker (post to come) for his special day. He is loved by many, and I'm so grateful to have him in my life!
After his celebration and some delicious lava cake, we ate dinner. It was incredible--as always at my in-laws--and I ate king crab legs for the first time. We toasted to the things for which we are grateful, and from what it sounds like, 2010 is going to be an amazing year in the life of our family! :)
To cap off the night, we made our traditional ginger bread houses, that turned out no-so-traditional...
Ryan and Adam (the two houses in the back) used the cardboard boxes that the gram crackers came in to be the foundation of their houses--cheaters. But, I do have to admit they turned out pretty cool. Ryan's is a high-rise and Adam's has columns and a garage-type place underneath (you can see it where the cinnamon bears are by the M&Ms)....
By the time I started making my house, most of the gram crackers were gone. I started with a square, and then covered it... I wanted to switch it up so I started putting one gram cracker then half a gram cracker side by side to make the upper-level. It worked out better than I thought, until I realized there weren't any gram crackers left. Sad, huh?
Well, Erin and I came up with a brilliant plan to lattice a roof out of twizzlers! I didn't really know how, so she helped, and ta da, a roof!
We put some cardboard down to add some support and then voi la! A Spanish hacienda! I wanted to make some cacti--specifically saguaro for my parents--but didn't have the patience.
All-in-all, a fun time was had by all! Yay for the holidays, family, and Christmas memories!

One Big Happy Family AGAIN!

On Thursday afternoon, Ryan and I skipped classes for a dang good reason...
To watch tirelessly for over an hour and a half to see...
Elder Lawyer (Austin) come home from his mission!
For the past two years, my awesome little brother has been preaching the Gospel in the Great Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission (GLBRM)! Thursday he came home and we've been enjoying our time with him since then! He is such a great example! Love you Austy!

Conference Gumbo
Posted by
McKenzie
One of the many amazing Conference traditions that my in-laws have is delicious, gourmet food. As I already mentioned there is "Cabin Breakfast", named so because we have it most weekend that we spend at the cabin. However, once a year my mother-in-law makes Gumbo in honor of our deep-rooted southern heritage (well, not so deeply rooted, but with returned missionaries from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana, we figure that it might as well be).
Anyway, after cabin breakfast this morning, everyone was definitely in a 'food coma', so we waited until this afternoon to indulge in... (feel free to be jealous).

Conference Weekend

This morning as I post, I am sitting in my in-laws kitchen listening to the sounds of cooking and "Music and the Spoken Word". Ryan and I woke up and started peeling potatoes for the delicious 'cabin breakfast' that my father-in-law is famous for (homemade hash-browns, eggs, bacon, toast... yummy!). I am salivating just thinking about it.
Another wonderful thing about being here for Conference is that I get to spend time with our nephew, Gavin. He is a year and a half next week, and I can't believe it! I must admit that he is one of the absolute cutest kids ever. Period. As evidenced by the following pictures (pardon the pixilation)...
Our cook Gavin in his over-sized apron/toga!
The perfect recipe... cute and lovable!

Belated Valentine's - Part 1
Posted by
McKenzie
Considering that it has almost been a month since Valentine's Day, I feel like a slacker for not posting this early. But, today marks our 1-year engagement anniversary, so I thought I would catch up on blogging about our Valentine's.
As I mentioned in a previous post, Ryan bought me the most gorgeous flowers! It was so sweet. We celebrated early, but on the actual Valentine's, he gave me this:
A beautiful silver ball bead bracelet!
Ryan and his family are so sweet! My in-laws bought me silver ball bead earrings for Christmas and Ryan surprised me with a matching bracelet! I have to say, I married the most wonderful and perfect man in the entire world.

Rise and Shout - 55 and Counting!
Posted by
McKenzie
On Tuesday, (February 18, 2009), my younger brother, Austin, e-mailed his BYU application essays from his mission in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They were great. He talked about BYU being a family tradition, and indeed it is.
Everything for his application was ready, so I proofed his essays, checked for word length, and copied and pasted them into his application. I hit submit, and it was complete. To double check that everything was ready to go, I ran to the 2nd floor of the ASB to speak with transfer admissions, and sure enough, his application was complete. They said that it takes about four weeks from the completion to hear back about the admission decision. So, everything was set.
Well... yesterday as I was checking my e-mail, I thought, "maybe I should double check Austin's e-mail for an application confirmation." So, I signed into his e-mail, and found the confirmation. However, there was also another attached e-mail that said, "A decision has been reached on your application for BYU. Please go to the BYU Decision Notification page where you can view the decision and related information."
My mind began to race, and I thought that this couldn't possibly be the response, could it? I logged into his route Y, and searched fanatically for the decision... AND....
Austin will be the 55th member of our family to attend BYU because:
HE GOT ACCEPTED TO BYU!
Ryan and I wanted to surprise him with a package, so we went to the BYU bookstore and bought a BYU keychain that plays the fight song. We bought a congratulations card and a couple Kara mint truffles and threw them in the mail to surprise him with his acceptance!
I can't wait for him to be at BYU. He will love it.
Congratulations Austy!
