Volunteerism

Ryan's pretty modest. And, so because of the nature of our blog as a journal of sorts, I wanted to highlight a special occasion that occurred last week...

For the past few months, Ryan has been developing a program at the Red Cross to reach out to the Latino community in the area. He has gone through CPR training, Interpreter training, Disaster Training, and all of which he does on a volunteer basis.

In addition to those trainings, he has recruited and hired a team of volunteer interns to help create a self-sustaining program.

He dedicates a lot of time to make the program run successfully. He is the analytical type and conjectures about it all the time. He'll bring it up in everyday conversation and ask how I think different ideas would work, it's incredible.

As the program has ramped up, Ryan has developed an excellent relationship with the staff at the Red Cross. He has come to value their input and appreciate their support. Little did he realize the impact he was making.

Last week, the local chapter of the Red Cross honored him with a Volunteer Pin.

But, this is not just any pin.

This pin is awarded for five to ten years volunteer experience or a significant contribution to the organization.

What Ryan doesn't realize is that his passion and his enjoyment have masked the contribution that he is making.

Congratulations sweetheart.
