Fathers in My Life - Part 4
Posted by

If any of you wondered what this was about, let me elaborate.
When Ryan and I started thinking about Medical School the whole process was daunting. Pre-requisites, shadowing, volunteering, MCAT, Application, etc. The time frame to get through the application process was also daunting: two to three years.
We often thought, "Can we really do this?" "Is this really the right path to choose?"
We were (and are) so grateful for the role of prayer and revelation in our lives. It helped us understand that this was the path for us.
Through our decision and the faith we put in it, we have seen miracles. We have seen miracles in the health of those we love, we have seen miracles in the decisions and opportunities of those around us, but most importantly we have seen miracles in helping us prepare for medical school.
Ryan and I have always had a firm and unmovable testimony of Tithing. We pay it faithfully and do so with a heart and mind towards God. It is in essence a small return of the monetary blessings we have received through Him. The miracle is that no matter how large or small the amount of money, the blessings that come from imparting that ten percent exceed that amount tens or even hundreds or thousands of times over.
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that we had been blessed because of our faithfulness. After my petition for the spousal tuition benefit at BYU was denied, I was disappointed. But I knew (and felt) that everything would work out.
And it did.
The very next day, Ryan and I received word that he had been granted an extremely generous Kaplan Scholarship for MCAT prep.
It was one of those moments. Moments in my life where I have stopped and thought about my Heavenly Father. Moments where I have thanked Him for the miracles in my life. It was an especially spiritual confirmation of the power of obedience to the laws of Tithing and Fast Offerings.
As we go forward day by day, the Medical School dream is slowly (and even quickly at times) become a reality.
I am grateful for a hard-working husband who is passionate about his field of study, who works hard despite the setbacks, and who never ceases to amaze me.
He is my confident, my better half, my best friend.
Here's to Ryan, the best husband a girl could ask for.
