Surviving the Weekend

The American Red Cross put together a Shelter Simulation this past weekend. They asked me to manage the shelter housing about 40 clients and 15 volunteers. There was no power until Saturday morning. There were at least 10 unaccompanied minors.

I arrived at about 6:30 pm and went home for the night at about 11:00 pm. I was back at 6:30 am to manage the Saturday shift. At least it was peaceful from outside.

The kids were up and about at 6:30 am. I thought to myself, "What teenager (besides myself) was up and about at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning?" Let's just say it was a good experience, but a long day.
