And that has made all the difference...

Have you ever wondered 'what if'? (i.e., What if you had actually done 'x'? or What if you had done 'y' differently?) Well, I can happily say that to this day, I am fortunate enough to have avoided the mind-nagging 'what ifs' that can occur in life. And, recently I have found that change can provide a new, unexpected perspective.

On Friday night, as I walked home, I passed by the Capitol Hill Ward church house on 7th street. There were a bunch of cars in the parking lot and so I decided to see what was going on. It was a bunch of women from the ward, celebrating their heritage and eating delicious food. One of the women had some kind of a tie to Robert Frost (or maybe just liked his poetry) and read "The Road Less Traveled". I have always loved this poem, but considering the circumstances, it offered new insight into the choices we make in life.

The Road Less Traveled
by: Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

I looove this poem. I wrote a big paper on it in high school which really forced me to dig deep into it. I feel like it hits home with the fact that you can't do everything in life. Sometimes you HAVE to make choices, you can't walk two roads at the same time. I also love how he says that basically they trails are the same but that he didn't take the better one just rather the one he did pick led him to where he was. I feel that way often... not sure if I took the "better" path but happy to where it got me. I am excited to see where your new path leads you!
