Have You Ever Wondered If...

... this sign is true?
Well, let me reassure you that yes, it is true. Last week on our way home from my doctor's appointment, Ryan and I were driving along when a white van in front of us slammed on its breaks. In response, we did the same, not realizing that the reason the van had done so was because there was a highway patrol officer on the side of the road.
Just our luck--like always--that we were driving with the flow of traffic, but happened to be the one pulled over. The guy was nice, really nice. He took our information, and was taking a long time--a sure fire guarantee for a ticket. Sure enough, ticket.
When he came back to the car, he said that the ticket (78mph in a 55mph construction zone) was doubled and would be over $750! I freaked out and started crying (hormones) and apologized that I couldn't stop (embarrassing). What I hadn't realized is that he had been very, very nice and generous and had only sited us for 10mph over in a regular 55mph which equated to only $90. I was so grateful, and although we shouldn't have been following traffic, speeding, etc, I was grateful all the same. It also hit me differently because the night before Ryan and I had been in Taylorsville and had seen the evidence of a fatal accident, too much evidence and it made me realize that people become complacent and reckless when they're driving, so if it took us getting a ticket to get people to pay attention and slow down, then I'm okay with that--backwards, I know.
Anyway, food for thought. Slow down, be careful, and yes, fines do double in construction zones.

When baby Adi is here, you'll notice immediately that it becomes your nature to drive really, really slow. :) I think all parents go through it. Sorry to hear about your ticket, but thank goodness the guy wasn't a super big jerk. There are some cops out there that would throw the book at their own mother. I hate those cops!
Yikes! Thanks for the tip.
