Chi chi chi! Le le le! VIVA CHILE!! Asi celebramos el 18 de septiembre!

Some may know that September 18th is a very special day for Chileans. It is their Independence Day! After King Ferdinand of Spain was desposed of by Napoleon, and Joseph (a drunkard according to Spaniards) was given the Spanish throne by his brother Napoleon, a movement for independence started to gain force in the Latin American colonies. On September 18, 1810, a national junta was formed in Chile and proclaimed Chile's autonomy and independence. Later on, Chile would gain full independence with the help of Bernardo O'Higgins and the Argentine Jose de San Martin, who crossed the Andes into Santiago and defeated the royalist army. On February12, 1818 Chile finally gained their full independence as a republic under O'Higgins' leadership.

Having served a mission in northern Chile, la gran Mision Chile, Antofagasta, I am quite in love with that country. And Kenz humors me in this obsession, so for el 18 we went to a Chilean restaurant in Provo called Pantrucas. (If you haven't been, you need to! It's on Canyon next to Day's Market). We met up with some friends there and waited about an hour in line and another hour for our food. It was so packed and so much fun! We listened to music, danced, and watched as others danced Chile's national dance, la cueca. We also were able to dress up in typical Chilean cowboy garb, which is what you see us wearing in our pictures. We of course had empanadas, typical of Chilean cuisine, and very good, too! Kenz also likes churrasco palta, which is a steak sandwich with avocado and other chilean flavors. Also very good if I say so myself.
Here's proof of our amazing latino dancing skills. Don't hate us because we're amazing!
Mi huasita chilena!
En fin, we had a fun night with good friends, food, music and dancing! We hope you will join us next year at Pantrucas to celebrate el 18! VIVA CHILE!
