Feminist vs. Domestic

This afternoon as I wandered aimlessly through the cobwebs of friend and family blogs, I stumbled upon a post that offered intrigue and desperate boredom relief. On a friend's site, I came across the '1930s Marital Scale', and was curious as to what it was. I preceded to read her post, and became increasingly interested in the way in which genders have been shaped and molded throughout the past century. Delving further into the scale, I decided to take the test, realizing that within the past 18 months I have gone from a semi-liberal feminist to a more conservative traditionalist. Here are the results:

67
As a 1930s wife, I am
Superior

According to the '1930s Marital Scale', I rate Superior on a scale that ranks from Very Poor (0) to Very Superior (76+). I was surprised to hear that I fit the mold of Julianne Moore in the 2005 film "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio", but happy all the same. I was satisfied knowing that in our society of 2008, I can be both a hostess who cooks gourmet meals for guests and an educated intellectual who begins graduate work in the fall, without being labeled a 'feminist' or a 'domestic'. Someone once told me that women can do everything they want, they just can't do everything at the same time, and I live by these words. A cook, an executive, a mother, and entrepreneur, women have endless possibilities, they just have to wait for the opportune moment.

Oh, and for those men out there who are interested. I am proud to say that Ryan scored 'Very Superior' on the scale.

Hey lady!! Thanks for taking the quiz! Way to go! I agree - this modern age is great. I'm excited we'll both be around for grad programs in the fall. By the way, Nathan and I will be out of town this weekend for a family trip, so we'll have to take a rain check on dessert night. We'd love to come to the next one, though! Thanks for the invite!

Hey McKenzie - I'm in school now to be a court reporter. They use a type of short hand on a stenograph machine and have to go 225 words per minute! But that's not on a regular keyboard - you usually can write whole words or phrases (or at least syllables) to get that fast. 75 wpm on a regular keyboard is pretty fast - I think you're doing great! Much faster than most people. Glad to see that all is well with you guys!
